Located in a restored 19th century farm house in historic downtown Mount Airy, Maryland.
Adhering to Dr. Maria Montessori's concept of a casa dei bambini, or "Children's Home" Misty Mountain offers a prepared environment for its students to learn in an intimate family setting.
Please read the March 2007 cover story in the Gazette on Misty Mountain and the Montessori Centenary for an in-depth description of the Centre and one hundred years of the Montessori movement
***** We have one class of twelve children overseen by two experienced professional educators. This provides a level of support and guidance that we feel is a defining quality of this program compared to other larger programs, and allows our students to truly feel “at home” even as their education begins in earnest.

The Centre comprises a classroom lined with shelves of carefully chosen and selected Montessori materials, a meeting/movement room with a thick wool carpet, and a kitchen/practical life space with tables, running water and spaces for focused exploration.
The outdoor playground is a spacious fenced grass lawn of 1/3 of an acre with a multifunction play area including a rock climbing wall, rope ladders, swings, slides, sandbox and other engaging physical elements.
